Aesthetics belonging to any conventional social classes are equally prone to conspicuous consumption and today’s disposable culture.

What happens when open source architecture proliferates amongst the masses? Building components of different historical tastes are easily manufactured and ready to be 3D printed from the online warehouse. Styles that used to indicate pecuniary strength are homogenised under the same technological processes and materials.

The Airfix-type model shown here explores the implications of open source’s nature of ‘collaborative design’ on the architectural profession, questioning whether the role of the architect might soon be reduced to a designer of components - charitable or fashionable - available to anyone, anywhere, through a Google's 3D warehouse.
